Housing, Homelessness, and Poverty

Approximately 22% of OC residents live in poverty, with an estimated 26,064 children (K-12) who are homeless or living in unstable housing conditions. Ranked second in least affordable places to live nationwide (after SF/Bay Area), housing insecurity is a pressing issue in our local community. This engagement area includes UCI initiatives looking for sustainable solutions to alleviating poverty both locally, in Orange County, and globally, through community-based research and innovative outreach efforts.
